National Philanthropy Day was established and first celebrated by the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) in 1986 as a way to honor individuals and businesses making a difference in their communities and around the world through philanthropic work.

What makes philanthropy special is that no one is required to give and there are no national laws or regulations mandating you must volunteer or get involved. Philanthropy is powerful and inspiring precisely because it is voluntary. Through the goodness of our hearts, through our need to connect, through our desire to see a better world, we come together to improve the quality of life for all people.

The month of November celebrates philanthropy and November 15 is National Philantropy Day, a special day to get involved whether by mentoring, volunteering, giving money, attending an event or showing support on social media.

We salute our community’s amazing donors, volunteers, corporations, small businesses, foundations and others who support our work to highlight generosity as a shared community value.
