To arrive at the right time for your Sunday activities, remember to turn your clocks back one hour if you are in most parts of Mexico.

Puerto Vallarta and Nayarit will gain an hour at 2:00 am on Sunday, October 27, 2013, by turning back clocks to Central Standard Time.

The majority of the remainder of the world that observes DST will turn their clocks back on Sunday, November 3, at 2:00 am.

Quoted from TimeTemperature.com: In 2010, ten Mexico municipalities which share a border with the United States began Daylight Saving Time three weeks earlier on the second Sunday in March and end on the first Sunday in November. Previously all of Mexico, with the exception of the state of Sonora which does not observe Daylight Saving Time, began and ended DST at the same time. The Congress of Mexico passed legislation in December 2009 which allowed these ten border cities to adopt a Daylight Saving Time pattern consistent with the United States. The municipalities which are now permitted by law to observe DST consistent with the United States are:

• Acuna, Coahuila
• Anahuac, Nuevo Leon
• Juarez, Chihuahua
• Matamoros, Tamaulipas
• Mexicali, Baja California
• Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas
• Ojinaga, Chihuahua
• Piedras Negras, Coahuila
• Reynosa, Tamaulipas
• Tijuana, Baja California

Quoted from TimeAndDate.com, "Many countries observe DST, and many do not. Many countries use DST to make better use of the daylight in the evenings. Many people believe that DST could be linked to fewer road accidents and injuries. The extra hour of daylight in the evening is said to give children more social time and can boost the tourism industry because it increases the amount of outdoor activities.

DST is also used to save energy and reduce artificial light needed during the evening hours — clocks are set one hour ahead during the spring, and one hour back to standard time in the autumn. However, many studies disagree about DST's energy savings and while some studies show a positive outcome, others do not.

It is difficult to predict what will happen with Daylight Saving Time in the future. The daylight saving date in many countries may change from time to time due to special events or conditions. The United States, Canada and some other countries extended DST in 2007. The new start date is the second Sunday in March (previously the first Sunday in April) through to the first Sunday in November (previously the last Sunday in October)."

For example, Mexico changed to DST on April 7, 2013, four weeks after the US and Canada changed their clocks on March 10. Now we're changing a week ahead.

The four weeks in the spring before Daylight Saving Time began in Mexico, and one week in the fall after Daylight Saving Time ends in Mexico, makes Mexico one hour out of sync with the corresponding US and Canadian time zones. Keep these time differences in mind when making your Mexico travel plans.
