September: Virtual Adoption Month

So you say your boyfriend has allergies? You can’t handle cleaning the litter box? Your Great Dane refuses to give up his spot on the bed? Your apartment is only 200 sq. ft.?

Well, September is the perfect time to decide to “virtually” adopt a PuRR Project cat. For only $120 a year (or $10 a month) you can choose your very own special kitty to sponsor.

It’s simple! Just go to our Virtual Adoption page where you can browse through our updated photo gallery of some of the special adult cats who are living out their lives in the shelter.

Snowball, wild but beautiful

Each photo will tell you something about the history or personality of that particular feline. You can click on the PayPal option and send your donation right on the site. Be sure to add a note saying which cat you chose.

We chose September because it is the time when the shelter is at its lowest point as far as donations go and we are literally scraping the bottom of the “kitty” for enough pesos to feed our felines.

Dolly has been on the list since we started it and has NEVER received an offer of sponsorship in all these years! We added Snowball last September and he has never been chosen either.

2014 PuRR Project Calendar

We’re ready to start taking orders for the beautiful PuRR Project 2014 Calendars, which are being printed right now!!

Last year was our first and it completely sold out!!!

This year’s edition is just as classy, printed on thick matte paper with a satin finish…..and remember….ALL the proceeds go to support the shelter.

Each month features a cat that was adopted from the PuRR Shelter and tells their individual story. Each month also displays US, CANADIAN and MEXICAN holidays as well as moon cycles.

You can pre-order yours by contacting us at info@purrproject.com or come by and pick one up at the Paradise Community Center Market starting late October.

These beautiful calendars are only a 200 peso donation and will make a great Holiday gift to any animal lover in your family.

If you live out of Mexico and would like us to mail a calendar to you, contact us and we will let you know the cost of calendar plus mailing and will arrange to send your order to you.

The 2014 cover shot is of Donald, adopted by Jayne & Chris Holden. He & his sister Daisy (now named Pepperoni) are both in loving homes today, but theirs is a typical PuRR Shelter story….found abandoned in a dumpster as tiny kittens (by a vendor on her way to Saturday market).

We realize we cannot save them all and sometimes that is truly heartbreaking to our volunteers. But these two made it against all odds, with the help of our vet plus around-the-clock bottle feeding by Jose….and we do love a happy ending with a great cover shot to boot!

Featured Feline: Misha

Misha was named after Michelle from Vida Vacations who brought her to us as a tiny little baby found in the street. Our vet quickly amputated half her tail which was badly injured, but otherwise she seemed in good health.

She is still small for her age but ready to be spayed and look for a loving home.

Unfortunately, “Torties” are not as favored as some of the kitties that are considered prettier and they usually end up being passed over for adoption. They get their name from the orange/cream/black mottled fur that resembles tortoise shell and are almost always female, like calicos.

In addition to their distinctive coloring, torties also have a reputation for unique personalities, sometimes referred to as “tortitude”. They tend to be feisty, talkative and they can be very possessive of their human.

Upcoming Events: Mexican Loteria!!

PuRR Project will be playing Loteria on Wednesday, August 21st at 5:00 so mark your calendar and don’t be late!

Our caller will be Elizabeth Ensor, one of the founding partners of ACT II Entertainment, Vallarta’s newest theatrical company.

This is our only fundraiser this summer and we desperately need you help to fill the “kitty” as we still have over 40 kittens to vaccinate and spay/neuter.

Los Alcatraces Restaurant is located in Fluvial Vallarta, right behind COSTCO and just 1/2 block from the bus stop on Francisco Villa.

The area where we play is air conditioned so this is your chance to escape the August heat and get your BINGO fix at the same time!

Mexican Loteria is easy to learn….it’s played just like BINGO except it uses pictures of traditional Mexican images instead of numbers. Great prizes, great margaritas and really super food if you want to stay for dinner. Meow!!
