In this summer holiday period, Puerto Vallarta exceeded expectations by registering an occupancy of between 90 and one hundred percent in the past three weeks, representing about 20,700 rooms occupied on average per day, and a economic impact of more than a billion pesos.

Gerard Carlos Guzman, Director of Municipal Tourism, explained that prior to the season, there was an 80 percent occupancy in the reservation system, however this increased positively in its various indicators. For example, the  Port Authority Administration(API) has had a flow of between 1,700 and 2,000 passengers daily who take the tours offered by local boats, "which exceeds even those taken during Easter," a period which traditionally exceeds one hundred percent occupancy.

The number of walkers, he said, is also reflected in the 6,227 persons during the month of July according to the information modules of the Directorate of Municipal Tourism, installed on the Malecon, the Olas Altas area and the Presidency Municipal. In recent weeks, about 200 people have participated in the free tours offered by the City to domestic and foreign visitors Downtown and in the Romantic Zone.

"The summer season was successful thanks to all the efforts that have been made in the promotion in coordination with the Tourism Board, the CVB (Convention and Visitors Bureau), the Secretary of Tourism of Jalisco and Federal Government to promote our natural market. We are talking about 2.2 million domestic tourists a year on average here in Puerto Vallarta and the other is 1.5 million foreign tourists a year, mostly Americans and Canadians," said Gerard Guzman.

According to data provided by the Director of Tourism of Puerto Vallarta, in 2012 the API reported just over 500 thousand people in sightseeing tours in small boats, and from January to June 30 this year, prior to the holiday period, it had recorded 254,000 visitors, which is nearly 15 percent of total domestic and foreign tourists who visit the port on an average each year that take these types of tours.

Overland excursions reflected an influx of 400,000 tourists as a yearly average. So far, from October 2012 to July 2013, the Municipal Government Service Modules have served a total of 51,508 visitors.
