In order to analyze the importance of sportfishing activity in Banderas Bay and Puerto Vallarta, Centro Universario de la Costa (CUC) on behalf of Dr. Juan Luis Cifuentes Lemus, and Regional Fisheries Research Center of Bahia de Banderas, associated with the National Fisheries Institute, are planning to conduct a scientific investigation and highlight the benefits granted by this economic and tourism category.
This was announced by Pedro Ulloa Ramírez, Director of Regional Fisheries Research Center in Banderas Bay, adding that the intention is to highlight three elements. "We will conduct this study to highlight the importance of sportfishing activity in the region. It will focus on three important elements to know the biological, social and economic development of fishing in the Bay," he stressed.
Ramírez clarified that the currently planned studies will be followed up by private agencies with resources to conduct such research deemed necessary.
Ramirez Ulloa added that the study will be conducted at the request of the Fishing Club of Banderas Bay in order to estimate more accurate economic spillovers, social impacts and tourism after the completion of various events such as the upcoming International Sportfishing Tournament.
