Riviera Nayarit Beach Received Blue Flag Certification Myriam Navarro - La Jornada

On Friday, another beach in Riviera Nayarit received the Blue Flag label which accredits this part of the coast as one of the cleanest in the world and with international quality standards.

Blue Flags certification is awarded by the jury of the Foundation for Environmental Education that consists of representatives of the United Nations Program for the Environment, the World Tourism Organization, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Culture International Union for Conservation of Nature.

The Secretary of Environment of Nayarit, Jaime Cuevas Tello, said it is a beach located in the north of Nuevo Vallarta, which is part of Banderas Bay FIBBA Trust, Marival hotels and Grand Velas, who have completed the standard of care of  one hundred percent in this area.

"It is a voluntary certification requiring daily work. This beach is bordered with 6 more that are certified as clean beaches and there are 24 distributed nationwide."

Cuevas added that Blue Flag beaches must meet 33 criteria standards in four main areas which are water quality, environmental management, environmental education and information which also includes a security course for those at these beaches."

The Blue Flag hoisting was done by the State Governor, Roberto Sandoval Castañeda.

This certification is valid for one year and can be removed at any time if standards are not met. The Blue Flag label is a powerful magnet for European tourism.
