The El Naranjo Turtle Camp and the Red Tortuguera AC have collected over a thousand turtle drawings since April as part of an educational strategy to protect turtles.

On Saturday, June 29, 4:30 pm, we will announce the winners of the Sea Turtle Drawing Contest at the El Naranjo Turtle Camp in La Penita de Jaltemba. There are 20 finalists in each of the two categories of first to third graders and fourth to sixth graders.

Riviera Nayarit has been home to countless species such as sea turtles. That's why our turtle clubs, with the support of the Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) of Riviera Nayarit and a lot of sponsors, held the drawing competition for children from first to sixth grades in Banderas Bay all along the coast from San Blas to Puerto Vallarta.

It was a long process of eliminations of drawings from the students, first discarding those illustrations showing river turtles. The jury was composed of representatives of the sponsors.

"For us it is very important that our children of the region understand the importance of preserving the four species of marine turtles that nest on our beaches and are at risk of extinction. The truth is that although we hear about them all the time, little is known of them. Proof of this is that of the more than one thousand drawings we received, 80% were of river turtles, with legs instead of fins," explains Ricardo Villaseñor of the organizing committee.

The awards will be open to the general public and will take place in the facilities of El Naranjo Turtle Camp, located on the beach in the northern end of the town of La Penita de Jaltemba.

The Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) of Riviera Nayarit supports initiatives such as the Red Tortuguera, contributing to preserve the natural attractions of this destination known as the Pacific Treasure, thus improving the experience of our guests and benefiting all the people, as indicated by Governor Robert Sandoval.
