Puerto Vallarta has thousands of restaurants to choose from and if you are ready to try some authentic Mexican food then keep your eyes open for a sign similar to the one in this picture. I know this is not the prettiest picture, but I used it here so you will know what kind of sign to look for!

There are lots of Mexican style restaurants that serve comida corrida in and around Puerto Vallarta where you can get a great meal for cheap. The prices seen here are in pesos so, this meal cost a little over 4 US $.

Comida corrida is basically an all inclusive meal that includes a soup of the day, a main dish served with rice, beans and tortillas, and an agua of the day (fruit juice) for a set price. Some comida corridas also include a dessert and have a selection of two or three main dishes to choose from.

Comida corrida is always a home cooked meal served with fresh ingredients. Each day the main dish changes as the food is bought fresh that morning from the market!

Aside from restaurants you will also find comida corrida served from a typical Mexican family’s home where they have converted their living room to a small eatery, or on a patio in front of their home or in  a small rented space.

Traditionally the Mexican’s here eat their heaviest meal in the afternoon around 3 pm, so you will find that most comida corridas are served between noon and 5 pm.

It’s in my nature to always be on the lookout for a bargain, and eating comida corrida is a delicious way to fill your belly for a bargain! You will find that most places serving comida corrida are not on the main streets of Puerto Vallarta, but are located on the side streets. So, venture off the beaten path and live a little!

Tips:

• It’s always a good idea to follow the crowds! If you are unsure of a place and it looks busy than you found a great place!

• Often times the places serving comida corrida will run out of their main dish before 5pm so, it’s better to get there earlier!
