Interactive Plaques Adorn Puerto Vallarta City Sculptures Vallarta Today

As part of a series of strategies that have been developed to boost tourism in downtown Puerto Vallarta, Luis Angarita Mayorga, Deputy Chief Operating Officer of the Convention and Visitors Bureau, and Carlos Gerard Guzman, Director of the Municipal Tourism Office have completed a new initiative to promote the sculptures on the Malecon.

On each sculpture, a decal has been placed with the name of the work, its artist, the year it was unveiled and a QR code that mobile device users can scan to access the official tourism website of Puerto Vallarta, Visit Puerto Vallarta.

You can tell a lot about a city by the artists that inhabit it and the art that can be found in its public spaces and buildings.

Puerto Vallarta's Malecon, in the heart of the historic center, is home to a rich variety of sculptures that pay tribute to the city's vibrant art scene.

Now, the Tourism Department at city hall has launched an initiative that will provide visitors and residents with art and artist information via an interactive link to the official website.

The campaign is aimed at enhancing the visitor experience and engaging residents in the promotion of the city by familiarizing them with local art history.

To this end, the Department of Tourism has placed approximately 30 descriptive plaques around at the base of the various sculptures and mosaics and landmarks that adorn the city including the famous seahorse, the new pier and, of course, the cathedral.

The plaques can be found along the malecon, the Cuale Island and as far north as the Marina.

The QR codes, once scanned, will take the user to the official website of Puerto Vallarta where they will be able to read about many of the city's favorite landmarks. The QR code can be read by an app available on most smart phones.
