It was confirmed this week that the recycling pickup service that had been provided by PEACE to both La Cruz and Bucerias is being eliminated as a result of major changes at PEACE.

We had been led to believe that the service would continue until the end of the month, however, Semana Santa (and the ensuing days off) has effectively put an early end to even that.

Bottom line here, ladies and gentlemen, is that as of this Wednesday morning writing, there is no longer any recycling in La Cruz. The "last" pickup scheduled for Friday will not occur due to the holidays.

The recycling program was initiated two years ago as a coordinated effort between Amigos de La Cruz and PEACE. Amigos raised funds to produce the recycling containers which were placed throughout La Cruz, over 80 containers over the course of the 2-year effort. PEACE provided the recycling pickup service; they paid the workers (including benefits) and also paid for the ongoing maintenance of the truck. This amounted to over 15,000 pesos per month, a cost the organization is no longer able to shoulder.

While the recycling program is not officially dead, there will certainly be a hiatus as options are explored. Meantime, recycling bins will be picked up and stored until such time as there is a new program in place.

Amigos are in for a special treat at La Cava Restaurant in La Cruz. Just in case you have not enjoyed the wonderful Mexican cuisine at La Cava, we want to introduce you to this dining experience already appreciated by so many La Cruz residents.
 
La Cava has provided a menu with two options for your selection:

1. Sopa de Tortilla, Chili Relleno Queso, Enchilada Mole, Chilapa de Tinga, Rice, Beans, and Salsa Mexicana

2. Sopa de Tortilla, Fajitas de Pollo, Rice, Beans, and Salsa Mexicana

To confirm your attendance, please email Amigos de La Cruz and be sure to indicate if you want selection 1 or 2.

In addition to our dinner meeting, Amigos will as usual have a short period of updates for our members.

The cost of our dinner continues to be 150 pesos, of which 50 pesos is specified for Amigos community projects, such as the street cleaning and garbage cans. Please be aware that tips are not included in the price of the dinner.
 
Amigos, the season is really winding down fast with some Amigos already departed for the Norte and many planning to say adios during April. We would love to see you at this special dinner and say our own goodbyes. In the meantime, Amigos wants to thank everyone for your participation in making this a wonderful season.
