'Jamex' Reggae Dance Party at the Boutique Theatre Boutique Theatre

The Boutique Theatre in Puerto Vallarta is proud to host the Reggae Dance Party featuring "Jamex" a Jamaican band that has played extensively in Mexico including the recent very successful "Riverfest."

Come dance the night away on Tuesday, March 26, at 8:00 pm to this wonderful band featuring two extraordinary vocalists.

Michol "Ras" Battick was born in Rosewell District in the hills of Clarendon, Jamaica. His family moved to Old Harbour in St. Catherine Parish where Michol attended Old Harbour Primary. He started singing at the age of 9 in school concerts and became a member of various Youth Clubs who did a lot of community service such as benefit concerts.

In 1974, Michol attended a technical school where he was inspired by Rastafarian and his stage name became "Ras." His first recording was "Roots Session" at the famous recording studio, Channel ONE, which turned out some of Jamaica's greatest musicians.

In that same year he completed his first composition, "You Got to Know Where you Stand." Michol was a member of several bands such as "C, 3 5 Express Band" where he met David Bailey. They were immediately inspired to form a band together named the "Head Corner Stone Band."

After having performed in many concerts, festival band wagons and hotels in Jamaica, David left for Mexico. He invited Ras to come to Mexico to perform in the Festival del Caribe in Quintana Roo, Cancun, Playa del Carmen, Isla Mujeres and Playa Car Shutemal.

Michol was in Mexico for a year and a half when he formed "Jamex." They did a recording of their first album, "Story to Tell." On that album Michol has two of his own compositions: "You Got to Know Where You Stand" and "Fussing & Fighting."

They have been performing around Mexico in festivals, carnivals, concerts, private events & hotels up to this date.

"King" David Bailey Brown was also born in Jamaica. While still a child, he began to show interest in music, especially the guitar. He participated in religious ceremonies he attended with his parents.

Since then, David began to relate with people from the music scene and at the age of seventeen was hired for the first time as guitarist for the band "C, 3 5 Express Band."

After a two year stint he formed his own musical group called "Head Corner Stone." With this group he toured every state in Jamaica, participating in special events, festivals and the carnival.

David then left for the Mexican Caribbean where he decided to launch as a singer and has since participated in the following festivals and cultural events: International Festival of Caribbean Culture, Cancun, Quintana Roo; International Cervantes Festival, Guanajuato; International Festival of Puebla; Fair Atlixco, Puebla; Feria de Tlaxcala, Tlaxcala; Festivities Cosamaloapan, Veracruz; Cultural Festival of the Mixteca, Huajuapan de Leon, Oaxaca; Folk Fair in Jaltipan, Veracruz; November Events in Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca; and the Cultural Festival of the Isthmus, Oaxaca.
