Great Participation in Chacala Surf Fishing Tourney CVB of Riviera Nayarit

The IV Annual Riviera Nayarit Surf Fishing Tournament was a great success with 76 anglers from around the republic lining the shores of Chacala, in the municipality of Compostela, to compete for the prize catch.

"We are very pleased because there was a great turnout and an atmosphere of very special camaraderie. No doubt Riviera Nayarit is a privileged place for fishing and events as evidenced by this tournament," said Mario Alberto Real, the Tepic Surf Fishing Club organizer.

At the end of the first day of the tournament, there were 41 contenders for the top prize. Some of those anglers stayed on to compete in the Lightning Tournament between 4:00 and 7:00 pm. Guillermo Medina from Puerto Vallarta led the pack at that time with his 1.700 kg Agujon (Needlefish).

Records continued until the early morning of March 18, minutes before the 5:45 am shotgun closing.

Four of the 76 participants were women who stood out with their knowledge of the sport, with Celene Ocegueda from Las Varas finishing in 3rd place with her 1.370 kg Jurel (Mackerel).

It is important to note that in order for all the fish species to compete in the same category, 1 kg was subtracted from Robalo (Snook), Sierra (Spanish Mackerel), Curvina (Perch), Pargo (Snapper) and Mero (Grouper) and 2 kg from Toro (Bullfish), Jurel (Mackerel), Agujon (Needlefish) and Gallo (Roosterfish).

And the winners are:

1st Place - Jesus Alfaro - Puerto Vallarta - Pargo Coconaco (Snapper) - 3,480 kg
2nd Place - Carlos Linares - Puerto Vallarta - Jurel (Mackerel) - 2.224 kg
3rd Place - Celene Ocegueda - Las Varas - Jurel - 1,370 kg
4th Place - Guillermo Medina - Tepic - Agujon (Needlefish) - 1.700 kg

The Riviera Nayarit (OVC) Convention & Visitors Bureau congratulates the Tepic Surf Fishing Club on this initiative that contributes to the attraction of tourists to this destination, thus improving the quality of life of all in Nayarit.
