Nayarit is a state that has proven its true vocation in tourism.

Today I had the opportunity to be in Bahía de Banderas and present the National Tourism Policy in order to open up Mexico to the world and bring the world to Mexico.

It is time to consolidate and build on the tourism capital of our country. Mexico is ready to upgrade and reposition its tourism industry globally. We can and will make our country a world class tourist destination.

Tourism is a priority strategic sector for national development; it is the main vehicle for moving towards a more prosperous, inclusive Mexico. We will exploit the enormous possibilities we have in this field in a timely, intelligent fashion.

Our country has everything it requires to become a global tourism power. With the new National Tourism Policy, it can and will be a world class destination.

These four guidelines comprise an efficient, responsible and forward thinking tourism policy. I am convinced that together we can do a lot for tourism in Mexico, I assume my responsibility in this great challenge and urge local governments and sectors of society to do the same.

This policy comprises four guidelines:

First: Planning and Sectoral Transformation. The National Tourism Policy will be incorporated into the various levels of government, as well as the actions and budgets of federal departments involved in the sector. A Tourism Cabinet will be created, chaired by the President.

Second: Innovation and Competitiveness. Our country must diversify its product range in the future and consolidate existing destinations.

Third: Development and Promotion. The State must assume responsibility in planning. The development and promotion of our tourist destinations should be a proactive agent, a driver and facilitator of private efforts.

Fourth: Sustainability and Social Benefit. Create instruments to turn tourism in Mexico into a clean industry, an industry that protects and preserves our natural heritage, history and culture. Programs will be encouraged to make tourism more affordable for Mexicans. Travelling and exploring our country should not be a privilege, but an opportunity available to everyone.

It is time to combine efforts for the Mexican tourism industry; it is time for Mexico to become a world tourism power.
