On January 1st, 2014 a new environmental tax on fossil fuels comes into effect, which means an increase in diesel and gasoline prices in all Mexico, as previously defined by the new so called Energy Reform.

Jose Manuel Lopez Campos, President of CANACOME in Yucatan (National Chamber of Commerce) informed that this new implementation of the Energy Reform in combination with an inadequate salary increase of only 3.9 percent, will not be reflected as a benefit to the people of Mexico.

The leader said that the amount of the new tax has not been defined yet by the Federation. The monthly “gasolinazo” will be much higher compared to the last increase of 11 cents, which means a blow to the national economy.

“This means that the price of gasoline and diesel will have two increases with only a few days apart starting the first Saturday of 2014, when people will suffer the first “gasolinazo.”

Gasolinazo is the monthly increase of 11 mexican cents on the price of gasoline and diesel, that has been going on for the last seven years.
