OAXACA CITY, Oaxaca - Lack of official action in response to some 400 agrarian conflicts in Oaxaca is "criminal". It allows them to explode and result in violent confrontations and massacres, such as the 11 murders committed over the weekend in the Mixteca region [in the northwest], the collective leadership of the Oaxaca Commune denounced this week.
This group, which supported the alliance that brought Gabino Cue to the governonship, blamed officials of the federal and state governments for the 11 murders of indigenous Mixtecs, including three minors, perpetrated on December 14th in Tres Cruces, in the municipality of San Juan Ñumi [in the southern Tlaxiaco district of the Mixteca region].
They warned that in the Sierra Sur [Southern Highlands], Mixteca and Isthmus of Tehuantepec regions there are conflicts with imminent threats of violent clashes, which could have serious consequences in the face of the neglect by agrarian authorities and politicians, those who sign agreements and make commitments, only to breach them.
The community organization, lead by the former deputy Flavio Sosa, described as "criminal, official inaction against the approximately 400 land conflicts that exist in the state, of which 29 are considered hot spots."
