Migrant mothers search for lost children in Mexico (PressTV Videos)

MEXICO CITY - For the ninth consecutive year, Central American women organize a caravan to search for their children who went missing while passing through Mexico on the way to the United States.

Where are our children? That is the only question that matters to these mothers. They come from Nicaragua, Guatemala and Honduras. Like thousands of others, their sons and daughters dreamed of a better life in the United States, but disappeared while crossing Mexico.

Some of these mothers have already spent years searching for them.

An estimated 20,000 migrants disappear each year in Mexico. Most are kidnapped, used as slaves, or killed by organized crime gangs; others end up unreported in prisons. The majority travel on top of these freight trains, nicknamed "The Beast" because of the dangers migrants face during the ride. From the countless missing people, a dozen have been found alive thanks to the mothers' caravan. Human rights activists say that work should be carried out by the Mexican authorities.

Organizers say the caravan has been successful in drawing attention to the plight of migrants, but there is a lot of work still to be done.

So far, these mothers have not had a clear response from the Mexican authorities. They will keep on looking for their sons with the help of human rights organizations, and through migrants' shelters.

Leaving photos and contact details behind, they hope they will receive good news in the coming months. If not, many of them will probably take part in next year's caravan.
