Two months after tropical storm Manuel laid entire Guerrero communities to waste, and now without the media cameras on top of them or the attention of the government, the inhabitants of Nuu Savi confront abandonment and the challenge of their reconstruction alone.

One of these communities is San Marcos, belonging to the ejido [indigenous community with communally owned lands] of Zitlaltepec in the municipality of Metlatonoc, where the only thing they can count on these days is community organization to confront the enormous challenges of surviving after a storm, in the midst of the poverty that Ziltlaltepec faces.

These days there are no food or medicines. Both lives and crops were lost and a fear of new landslides due to rain and earthquakes persist. Nestled in the Sierra del Anguililla, a mountain range of approximately 2,550 meters [8,400 ft.] above sea level, and close to the Piedra Parada river, San Marcos is a community that belongs to the autonomous system of justice of the Regional Coordinator of Community Authorities (CRAC-PC). One hundred ten families that decided to establish themselves there 24 year ago still live there.
