TIJUANA BC - Of the 200 deportees who arrive in the city every day, around 30 percent belong to some gang in the United States, and when they arrive in Mexico they find no work opportunities, so they are recruited by the main drug traffickers which operate in Tijuana, working at the base of the pyramid as lookouts, cooks and distributors.
This was reported by anthropologist Víctor Clark Alfaro, who said that the deportee population needs attention and opportunities to improve their quality of life. However, authorities and the government have taken the position to discriminate against them to such a degree that they have no other alternatives than the road to crime.
He explained that the ex-gangsters from Southern California are recruited by the three cartels which operate in Tijuana, which are the Sinaloa Cartel, the Knights Templar and what is left of the Arellano Felix Cartel.
The anthropologist said they are used to operate at the base of the pyramid with many positions, be they lookouts, cooks or distributors, as they already know the drug market in the US.
These people, he made known, congregate in downtown and Eastern part of the city, and the Eastern part has become a large crime area in the last few years.
Although he pointed out that the Tijuana Chief of Police is fighting violence, arresting a daily quota of 21 deportees has not changed with the new city administration. As is reported by some deportees, the arrests continue in the same quantities.
