Some Mexico City residents are protesting the government's plan to hike metro fares by refusing to pay them at all. Protesters angry over the fare increase have begun to occupy metro stations around the city. Using the hashtag #PosMeSalto ("Well, then I'll jump"), activists are organising a campaign to jump turnstiles in stations across the city on Friday.

Mexico City's current fare is among the world's cheapest, but the government's planned 67-per cent increase by 2014 will make it one of the most expensive metro rates in the world.
