National Digital Strategy (Government of the Republic)
President Enrique Peña Nieto said that the government is, “Determined to transform Mexico and place it at the cutting-edge of technology and knowledge.”
As he led the launch of the National Digital Strategy, the president declared that it transcends the scope of the public domain and encouraged all Mexicans to make greater use of technology, “All government departments and agencies will combine to promote the adoption and development of technology, innovation, openness and transparency throughout the governmental apparatus.”
“The goal is very clear: to make the best use of technology to trigger Mexico’s development,” he said.
The president declared that, “Mexico is determined to break inertias and change paradigms. This is what the country has declared this year, with its encouragement and approval of major transformative reforms.”
However, we added, “We realize that in order to transform the national reality, it is not enough to adapt the laws; it is also necessary to make changes in public policies and in the everyday work of governments, businesses and organizations.”
President Peña Nieto declared that the National Digital Strategy does not make technology an end in itself, “But rather a means to achieving the social goals we have set.”
