MEXICO CITY - Foreign direct investment in Mexico more than doubled in the first nine months of the year, boosted by brewer Anheuser-Busch Inbev N.V.'s buyout of Mexican beer maker Grupo Modelo SAB, the Economy Ministry said last week.
Foreign direct investment in the January-September period totaled $28.2 billion, compared with $13 billion for the first nine months of 2012.
Excluding the Modelo sale, FDI was up 15% at $15 billion, the ministry added. Third-quarter FDI amounted to $3.4 billion.
Direct investment has picked up this year after a disappointing result in 2012, when foreign companies invested $15.5 billion in Mexico and Mexicans invested $23.4 billion abroad.
