TIJUANA, BC - Ten mayors of Baja California and Baja California Sur have sent President Enrique Peña Nieto a letter asking him to establish a one-stop window for donations from foreigners. The federal government replied that it has received the letter, but customs has yet to provide a response to the request.
The coordinator for the Office of Bi-national Matters for Tijuana, Carolina Chávez Vázquez, reported the foregoing during an event held today in the city, and asked for help from the Secretary of Tourism, Óscar Escobedo Carignan, with the intention that he would carry on with the petition for the customs window during the new Baja state administration.
In the letter, the mayors asked Peña Nieto to facilitate the participation of foreign charitable organizations, which have collaborated with community actions in the region, as in many occasions their work is delayed by restrictions which the face at the border.
In the letter, they said that the customs restrictions Mexico imposes are excessive and many times limit the support with bureaucratic processes which delay the delivery of support for the most needy.
