Somos Raza magazine offers this short but well researched overview of the Mexican Revolution. (Somos Raza)

The Mexican Revolution began on November 20, 1910, as an attempt to overthrow an authoritarian president and soon devolved into a multi-sided civil war. The conflict, in which at least 1 million people are believed to have died, produced a host of national heroes as well as a new constitution full of economic, social and political reforms.

Mexicans commemorate the start of the revolution on or near November 20 - on the third Monday of November - with parades and ceremonies each year.
