Mexico’s former president Vicente Fox has some advice for Republicans: If you want to retake the White House, take up an overhaul of U.S. immigration laws.

... Migration fractures families, the 71-year-old Fox said. “Let’s finish with the criminal situation of dividing families. How many kids are left without their parents because they are thrown out back to Mexico … And how many families are broken because the mother is back there in Mexico trying to feed the kids and the father is here trying to raise some money.”

Fox drew attention when he was elected president in 2000 for praising Mexican migrants as “heroes” who had the stamina and drive to further their lives on the migration trail. That was then a radical embrace by a Mexican politico.

He’s scrutinized now for his embrace of marijuana legalization.
