The Knights Templar Cartel's Facebook page
Mexico’s newspaper Milenio published an article on corruption in the state of Michoacán. The article stated that according to investigations by all of the security forces in the state the Knights Templar, the drug cartel that seems to roam freely in the cities, towns, and villages of Michoacán, collect annually from all of their activities $1 billion a year.
Milenio says this is due to the use of “silver or lead” by all the drug cartels. The newspaper also noted that bribery is not only found in the state of Michoacán, but also other states in which they operate, including the State of Mexico, Guanajuato, Guerrero, Colima, Tabasco, Chiapas , Morelos, Baja California (with support of the Sinaloa cartel) and Tamaulipas (in collaboration with the Gulf Cartel).
Finally, the newspaper noted that not everyone listed takes bribes. They point out that often a gang member will list someone and pocket the money himself; noting that if discovered, the person is executed.
