Mexican police found a grassroots leader and his wife fatally shot inside their home in the southern state of Guerrero.

Neighbors of Luis Olivares Enriquez and Ana Lilia Gatica called police after hearing shots Sunday morning. The crime took place in Coyuca de Benitez, near the Pacific resort city of Acapulco.

Olivares, who led the OPPCG farmers organization, asked Guerrero Gov. Angel Aguirre to expedite the restoration of electricity to the Fuerte Emiliano Zapata neighborhood, without power since Hurricane Manuel battered the state in late September.

The killings of Olivares and his wife came eight days after a cousin of the OPPCG chief was gunned down in the same neighborhood, media accounts noted.
