Affordable housing is a global problem that's quickly worsening. And worldwide, communities are devising innovative ways to bring shelter to those who otherwise wouldn't have any.
One of those innovations comes from Kevin Cyr, a Brooklyn-based artist whose work often focuses on themes of self-reliance, recycling and mobility.

Inspired by Cormac McCarthy's post-apocalyptic novel, The Road, Cyr created the Camper Kart - a small, convertible housing unit that's also portable. Cyr actually created the design several years ago, but it has of late started to make the Internet rounds again - and it's easy to see why.
Perhaps a sub-genre of the tiny house movement, Camper Kart is based on the idea of living on less and doing it autonomously. And while it may not provide all the practical amenities found in standard tiny homes - there doesn't appear to be a bathroom - Camper Kart is an inspiration of off-the-grid, low-impact housing.
