The president of the National Institute of Women (Inmujeres), Lorena Cruz, pressured the state governments to standardize the laws and the classification of crimes linked with gender violence, after emphasizing that the trafficking of women, sexual crimes and the killing of women (femicide) has become an issue of growing concern in the country.
"We can no longer delay the bringing into line of laws and the classification of all crimes in the states. From Chihuahua to Yucatán, we need federal and state laws harmonized, as well as protective measures, free legal assistance, and reparations for harm to all female victims of crime," she indicated.
The presidents of the Gender Equality Commission in Congress, senator Diva Hadamira Gastélum, and representative Martha Lucía Mícher Camarena, warned that the lack of a response to the international recommendations has provoked gender violence in the country at shocking levels.
