The head of the Attorney General’s Office (PGR), Jesús Murillo Karam, has admitted that:
"The missing persons problem is out of our control on a domestic level. He added that "if we do not understand international collaboration, if we are not able to exchange the information that we are barely attempting to systemize and accommodate with the countries of origin, even many of those who disappear here or there, then we will continue in complete darkness."
By participating in the fourth National Meeting of Forensic Medical Services and the sixth meeting of the Iberoamerican Network of Legal and Forensic Medicine Institutions, in Mexico City’s High Court of Justice, Murillo indicated:
"All of this country’s attorney general’s offices (including the federal one) must make a huge effort to gain the people’s trust, which will allow us to discover many things that seem incredible to all of you when they talk.
"Because they say ‘we know that this criminal is there’ and they can't believe that the authorities are not aware of it. And the truth is that we are not aware of it, because we have lost that link between the community and the authorities that would ideally allow the authorities to know more than the citizens."
