Rape and Kidnap Alarm App for Smartphones Tereza Pultarova - IET
go to original October 23, 2013

Software developed by a Mexican company enables people in dangerous situations to alert police, family and friends by pressing a smartphone button.

The app, created by Sec-App Technologies, is not only capable of sending an instant message to nearest police stations and pre-selected security contacts, it also immediately turns on the smartphone’s microphone and camera, recording audiovisual footage from the situation and automatically uploading it to a cloud.

Relying on satellite geo-location services, the app informs the police and the security contacts about the exact location of the victim.

The company, from Aguascalientes, Central Mexico, plans to offer the service to some 80 million smartphone users in the country for free.

Available to download from the Internet, the app can also warn users in case they are heading into a potentially hazardous area and offer an alternative route.
