On the banks of the Tamesí River, in the city of Pánuco, Veracruz, 600 families are taking advantage of the presence of the Mexican Red Cross, which is in the area to provide humanitarian aid, to call for the federal government, particularly the Secretariat of Social Development [Sedesol] and the Secretariat of Health [SSA], to recognize the extent of the damage inflicted on the region by hurricane Ingrid.

“Until now nobody, not one single government representative, has come to survey the damage left behind by the heavy rains that fell on our homes, on our crops, and on the waters we fish.”

Milenio took in the damage along the Tamesí River from a fisherman's boat, from which it was clear that the majority of homes along the river were left uninhabited when residents took refuge on higher ground. That situation has been seized upon by looters, who have begun to steal what little was left in those homes.
