Mexico's consumer confidence weakened notably in September, and to a larger extent than forecast by economists, latest data showed last week.
The consumer confidence index declined to 94.1 in September from 97.4 in August and 98 in July, survey data released by statistical office INEGI revealed. Economists expected the index to drop to 96.4.
In September, Mexican households were less upbeat about the condition of their personal finances over the last twelve months. The corresponding sub-index fell to 97.6 from 101.2 a month earlier.
Similarly, the measure of respondents' expectations for their financial situation in the coming months dropped to 102.2 from 103.2.
At the same time, consumers' perception of the current condition of the Mexican economy turned downbeat during the month, with the relevant indicator falling to 91.2 from 98.4 in August. Their views on the prospects for the economy in the next twelve months turned more pessimistic. The index slipped to 98.8 from 102.3, data showed.
