Sky Mexico plans to reach 6 million users (40% of the country's pay-TV market) by the end of the year. Low-cost offers are mostly behind the growth of Televisa's subsidiary, which also plans to launch the TV Everywhere Blue To Go within the coming weeks.
The plans were unveiled by Marco Rojas, marketing director at Sky, during this week's Dataxis Summit in Mexico. Rojas explained that the introduction of low-cost and prepaid packages - through VeTV, the DTH service - has driven the country's pay-TV market, which currently has a penetration rate of 47%. By 2014, 4.5 million of the estimated 6 million customers will be low-cost, said Rojas.
But the growth will also by driven by new technologies. Televisa plans to launch its TV Everywhere service Blue To Go by the middle of October in order to reinforce its presence in the over-the-top (OTT) market. The platform will be initially available only for iOS devices.
Televisa is also close to launching Veo, an OTT everywhere service for Cablevision's customers. The company intends to compete directly with other platforms such as América Móvil's Claroviceo or Totalmovie.
