Captura de Cocodrilo en Acapulco (Jorge Flores Castillo)

At least eight crocodiles have been captured around the coastal city of Acapulco in Mexico over the past few days, after they were left stranded inland following massive storms that hit the area in September.

Civil protection authorities captured a three-meter-long crocodile, using ropes to tie it up and transporting it in the back of a pick-up truck.

One official at the scene was heard talking on the phone, telling his colleagues to get to his location because there were more crocodiles to be caught.

Along the beach front, local residents captured a meter-long crocodile, taping up its mouth so that it could be safely moved.

"(There were) eight big crocodiles, one three and half meters long and others of four and three meters long each, and now, where the restaurants are, there are two, around one and a half meters long and this one which we just captured is one meter long," said local resident Victorio Garcia Beltran.

In the neighboring state of Oaxaca, environmental protection authorities have reported that a crocodile attacked and killed a child.

The office of the Attorney General for Environmental Protection said the boy was playing with his brother in an area more than 5 kilometers from the animal's natural habitat.

The reptile bit the boy's head before releasing him and fleeing. It was later captured and relocated to a protected natural area for crocodiles.

Authorities have so far found 28 crocodiles in urban areas hit by recent floods from Tropical Storm Manuel and Hurricane Ingrid.
