Some areas of Acapulco had more than one meter high floods on Thursday.
Torrential rain storms have triggered floods in the Mexican resort city of Acapulco, prompting authorities to evacuate residents from high-risk regions and shut down schools.
The new flooding in the major city comes less than two weeks after two strong tropical storm systems struck the country’s pacific coastal regions, killing at least 139 people, local media outlets reported Friday.
More than 50 people remain missing following last week's storms, which affected 24 of Mexico’s 31 states.
This is while rescue crews continue to search the rubble and mud in the affected areas for bodies of those still buried in a landslide in La Pintada, where some 40 homes were swept away by mud from a hillside.
Acapulco, in the western state of Guerrero, was one of the worst-hit areas where thousands of tourists remain stranded.
Government authorities issued renewed alerts for the rest of the state of Guerrero as torrential rains led to evacuations in more than 20 districts.
