In the context of the second march against the energy reforms, which would privatize oil, and the fiscal reform, which would raise taxes, Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador yesterday proposed a plan of action to be implemented before Congress approves any constitutional changes:
1. Promote the proposal for a citizen consultation on the constitutional reforms under the slogan "Are you going to let them decide for you?"
2. Using citizen brigades, collect the signatures that are needed to support the claim that this decision is supported by the populace.
3. Starting today and over the next 10 days, López Obrador will lead 40 assemblies in the Federal District [Mexico City] and the state of Mexico, with the purpose of promoting the proposal....
4. On October 6, there will be another march from the Angel of Independence to the Zócalo [central plaza].
5. Each of those attending yesterday's march will gather at least ten signatures supporting the proposed citizen consultation. On October 6 boxes will be installed from the National Auditorium [on the boulevard Paseo de la Reforma, in Chapultepec Park] to the Zócalo, where the petitons can be deposited. The marchers also pledged to convince more people to join the demonstrations.
Yesterday at 5 pm, Lopez Obrador met with the chairmen of the state committees of the National Regeneration Movement and it allies to refine this plan of action.
