Are you looking for a different way to add charitable giving to your business? Maybe you don’t want to just make a one-time donation to an organization or just match what your employees are giving. Maybe you’d rather take on a cause and make it part of your business. But where to begin? Below are a few tips to help you get started.
Figure out what — and why – you want to give back
Maybe you want to incorporate charity into your business model simply to give back. Maybe you see it as a way to do good and benefit from a tax write-off at the same time. Whatever your reasons, be honest with yourself when you get started. The amount of energy you devote to your cause later on will make your motives transparent anyway.
A good way to start is by listing out what is important to you. Maybe you received a scholarship, so you want to make sure someone gets the same opportunity you’ve had. A loved one might have suffered from a particular ailment, so you want to help fund research. List the places you’ve been, the organizations you’ve belonged to and the events that have had the greatest impact on your life. The closer the cause is you personally, the easier it will be for you to share the story.
