Teacher emcampment at the Monument to the Revolution (René Soto/Milenio)

MEXICO CITY - From a space that sells documentaries and protest music to a legal services office and a storage center for food and hygiene articles, all can be found in the new encampment of teachers of the CNTE [National Coordinating Committe of Education Workers] that was installed five days ago at the Monument to the Revolution [after their eviction last Friday from the Zócalo, the central plaza]. It has completely become a "teachers' city".

The main entrance to the encampment is in the Plaza of the Republic, which is accessed from the Paseo de la Reforma [major boulevard]. On the street leading to the plaza in front of the monument, the indications of the sit-in begin: blue, red and yellow tarps, hung in front of restaurants and convenience stores, offices of the ISSSTE [Institute of Social Security for State Workers] and apartment buildings.
