Andrés Manuel López Obrador leads rally in Mexico City (Aristegui Noticias)
On Sunday, Andrés Manuel López Obrador called for a peaceful national mobilization against energy and tax reforms proposed by the federal government.
In a rally held at noon in the Historic Center of Mexico City, on Avenida Juárez at the side of Alameda Central [park], López Obrador proposed a strategy of “non-violence” for the movement. The rally was prevented from being held in the Zócalo [main plaza] because of the encampment held there by the National Coordinating Committee of Education Workers (CNTE) [the dissident group within the National Union of Education Workers, (SNTE)])
The Plan of Action proposed by López Obrador and approved by those present at the rally will begin with informative meetings regarding the risks involved in the proposed energy and tax reforms. The proposed meetings will be held on Sunday, September 15, in every municipal seat and in the sixteen boroughs of Mexico City from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m.
