Vicente Fox is a Mexican farmer who would like to grow marijuana as a major crop and see it sold in his country’s convenience stores alongside chewing tobacco and cigarettes.
In Mexico, there undoubtedly are hundreds of farmers who have seen how much money there is to be made in growing marijuana and feel the same way.
What makes Fox different, though, is that he is the former president of Mexico whose voice still carries considerable weight – and he might just be the one whose influence could help legalize what has become his country’s biggest farming product.
But just by taking the stand he’s taken, Fox has threatened the economic clout and future of Mexico’s bloodthirsty drug cartels, not to mention the multi-billion-dollar illegal drug industry spanning into North America.
Actually, Vicente Fox favors the eventual legalization and regulation of all drugs in Mexico – a plan, he envisions stripping the violent drug cartels of their profits and powers.
In doing so, though has Fox signed his death warrant as well? Or at the very least put his life in danger? If he’s ruffled any feathers, he isn’t backing down.
