Mexico's governing Institutional Revolutionary Party is planning to propose gambling reforms in the new legislative season which started Sunday, according to reports from news agencies.

According to the reports, the government's proposed bill follows New Jersey's new online gambling laws by requiring licensing to be restricted to operators who are approved for land-based gaming facilities. This could see Mexican casinos partner with offshore online gaming operators as in NJ.

The proposal includes measures against underage gambling, problem gambling and money laundering, and proposes the creation of a National Gaming Commission that would oversee licensing, regulation, enforcement and consumer complaints. It would update the 2005 amendment of Mexico's 1947 gambling laws.
