Reaction in Brazil and Mexico has been one of indignation and anger after a Brazilian news report on Sunday accused the US National Security Agency of having spied on their presidents.

The allegations originated from secret files obtained from US whistle-blower Edward Snowden. The agency is said to have intercepted internet data.

Brazil's Foreign Minister Luiz Figueiredo made a statement saying he had already begun contacting various countries including BRIC members - Brazil, Russia, India and China - in order to discuss the matter because his government believed it could involve all of them.

Mexico's Foreign Minister Jose Antonio Meade said there had been a possible violation of sovereignty and demanded a full investigation.
