Around 95% of formal businesses in Mexico are micro enterprises, whose employees produce 5 times less than larger companies, which represent 0.2 percent of businesses, says Pilar Aguilar, director of the Endeavor Foundation in Mexico.
“In terms of productivity, the average person working in a small micro enterprise or a small company generates about 127,000 pesos [USD$9,870] a year, while a person who works in a large company generates 635,000 pesos [USD$49,354]. This is to say, there is a disparity of about 5 times.” says, Pilar Aguilar.
The specialist noted that to resolve the productivity and employment problems, public policies need to form companies with high growth potential and also boost the growth that they already have. It doesn't help the country to generate more businesses that don't add value.
