TIJUANA — For many people, moving from Kansas City to Tijuana would seem a dramatic uprooting. But after three months in Tijuana, the Rev. Pat Murphy said he’s feeling right at home at the helm of La Casa del Migrante, the city’s largest migrant shelter.

The 61-year-old Catholic priest is a member of the Scalabrinians, founded in 1887 by an Italian priest to minister to migrants and refugees.

Murphy recently spoke with U-T San Diego about the 120-bed temporary shelter for migrant men in the city's Colonia Postal and the broader issue of immigration. Read an edited version of that conversation at The San Diego Union-Tribune.
