Outside Lands 2013 Lineup Announcement (OutsideLands)

Music festivals are everywhere. It is the new cultural attraction with thousands of young, and not-so-young, people attending.

Outside Lands, San Francisco’s music festival, is one such event, boasting big names playing to a crowd larger than the population of some towns.

In the 2013 edition of OSL, slated to take place August 9-11, the lineup includes Paul McCartney, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Nine Inch Nails as headliners of each night, followed by a long list of big names to perform on the four stages — an average of 28 artists per day. The festival is held at the impressive Golden Gate Park, which provides a unique atmosphere, surrounding each stage with majestic trees avoiding the sound overlapping between stages.

In addition to the artists named in the lineup, there is a DJ tent and “The Barbary,” a circus-type tent where a different kind of entertainment is offered, mainly first-class stand up comedy.

Outside Lands made its first run in 2008 and, since then, has grown continuously until becoming a San Francisco landmark, all the while absorbing the city’s style: its taste for gourmet food and good wines, the search for new things, its love for nature and environmental concerns, and more. And let’s not forget San Francisco’s place in modern music history in the old hippie neighborhood of The Haight.
