Public officials can get away with a lot of slimy stuff, whether in Mexico or anyplace else. But don't make a kid cry.

Now Juan Diego López Jiménez is out of his job as inspector of the city center in Villahermosa after this video of him humiliating young street vendor Tzotzil Manuel Diaz Hernandez to the point of tears went viral, according to a report from the news agency Yancuic.com.

Jiménez is seen making the boy dump his candy on the ground after confiscating three packs of cigarettes from his basket. The news report also said the state's ministry of education has awarded the boy's family a grant for his education, medical and psychological care.
