MEXICO CITY - Today President Enrique Peña Nieto will introduce the National Crusade Against Informal Employment, which will be a first step for the country to advance in such key areas as competitiveness and overall development, declared Alfonso Navarrete Prida, Secretary of Labor.

According to the Secretary of Labor, about 30 million workers are in the informal situation that, among other things, limits their right to quality jobs and renders unfeasible the country's projects for modernization and global competitiveness.

Navarrete Prida emphasized that eradicating the situation of irregular workers ... will allow implementation of the new Federal Labor Law to advance, and it will provide that public and private employees who charge hourly rates, might go on payroll with labor and social security [medical, pension] benefits.

The head of the Secretariat of Labor and Social Welfare said that this program already has the support of private organizations such as the Employers Confederation of the Mexican Republic and the Business Coordinating Council, as well as Mexico's major labor leadership.
