San Luis Potosí - Raúl Plascencia Villanueva, president of the National Human Rights Commission (CNDH), affirmed that up to this point in the Peña Nieto administration, the complaints against the Army have decreased almost 50 percent. However, he states that the complaints against the Federal Police have increased, particularly in terms of abuse or extortion in airports.
While visiting this state where he signed two collaboration agreements with governor Fernando Toranzo, the national ombudsman stated: “We are observing a decrease in complaints against the Army of around 50 percent. We used to have 3 thousand complaints per year against the Army. With the tendency of the last 6 months, we are around half that, close to 500 or 600 in the first half of the year. This would indicate that by the end of the year we would have half or less of what we used to.”
Regarding the Federal Police, he explained that the complaints are primarily of abuse or cases of extortion that “we have detected primarily in airports or check points. Because of this, last week we began an official investigation and will be giving a report on the investigation shortly”.
