In Mexico City “we are not scared of being able to make a well-informed decision” concerning the legalization of drugs, affirmed mayor of the Federal District [Mexico City], Miguel Ángel Mancera.

Interviewed in the Mexico City Museum, the head of the capital city said that the discussion “is just beginning,” and participants include the United Nations and other diverse stakeholders in order to carry out what should be an analysis from different viewpoints, taking into account sociological, medical, judicial and youth integration factors.

“Mine was one of the first mentions of opening this debate, and I continue to insist on it. The debate is not exhausted; it is begun,” assured the local official.

Nevertheless, Mancera highlighted that “even more than the debate and the opinions,” it is necessary to generate “results and [specific] actions” in order to combat the addictions.
