Operation Blessing International officials say they have launched an anti-human trafficking awareness campaign in Mexico.

The campaign, “1A1,” aims to educate youths 11 to 18 about the dangers of sex trafficking, forced labor and other related activities, according to a news release. The program is beginning in Cuauhtemoc in Mexico City and will distribute thousands of prevention kits that include a brochure, a bracelet with the campaign logo and a DVD with an animated educational film.

More than half of the country’s human trafficking cases have come from there since 2007, according to the release.

Officials cited a United Nations estimate that 16,000 to 20,000 children are exploited in Mexico annually by cartels who kidnap them. Mexico ranks second in the world behind Thailand in sex trafficking, according to the humanitarian organization.

Worldwide, human trafficking grosses more than $32 billion a year, according to the news release.
